Preston College
The main centre for learning English and getting qualifications is Preston College. Asylum seekers and refugees can register for free courses.

If you do not work and receive a benefit please bring your recent evidence with you as the course may be free for you. Please bring the necessary evidence when you attend one of our registration days.
If you work and your individual income (including self-employed) is less than £16009.50 you may be entitled to 100% reduction in fees. If you earn more than this and your household income is less than £30,994 (you need to include salaries and any Child or Working Tax Credits you may receive) you may be eligible for a discount on your course fees. Please bring the necessary evidence when you attend one of our registration days.
Otherwise Fees are £175 for all qualifications.
University of Central Lancashire
UCLAN are providing free English classes for adults (18+) who do not have English as a first language.
We only have them running on Thursdays throughout May. They will restart again in October 2024.

WEA offer online ESOL classes
The WEA are running online English classes for Entry Level 3 and Level 1 with 7.5 hours a week of class time for people who are not able to access college. If you are not attending college but want to get an English qualification, you can still register. Email Layla Wilson on [email protected]

Talk English – St Cuthberts Church
English lessons every Tuesday from 10:30. The address is: Lytham Road, Fulwood, Preston PR2 3AR. For more information contact [email protected]
Free English conversation class – Wednesday 1-3pm at the Community Centre , Church Road , Wesham
It is run by a group of volunteers called ” New Roots ” . There is a qualified volunteer teacher there to help and these sessions are supported by The Salvation Army Refugee Support Team. It is open to any asylum seekers or refugees from Kirkham and Wesham and Wrea Green area.
Cooking with English
Thursday 12:15-14:30pm at St. George’s Church Hall, Preston (George’s Street, off Lune Street) – Free
This is open to female sanctuary seekers and is an opportunity to practice speaking English in a fun way and make friends.
Pukar
