SATURDAY 18th JUNE – Walk and Picnic

Healing through walking together and enjoying the outdoors

Time: 1.00-5.30 PM                                                                                                                                                       

Location: Groups will meet at various points across Preston and South Ribble  and walk towards Avenham Park to gather for fun activities and the sharing of food.

A walk and picnic in Avenham Park (exercise and the outdoors as
healing).
Please bring drinks and food to share.
Additional food and ice cream will also be provided.
This activity builds on a similar event organised last summer, that
was a huge success.
Sanctuary seekers with their families along with supporters of
PCoS are invited to participate. Walkers are encouraged to gather in
small groups at different points North, South, East and
West across the city and walk together to meet up in Avenham Park.
Fun activities for young and old include: parachute and ball
games, Frisbee, using the playground.See the source image

SANCTUARY COOKALONGS COMMUNITY MEAL AND
NETWORKING

Location: St Cuthbert’s Church, Lytham Rd, Fulwood, PR2 3AR
Time: 1PM – 3PM

Sanctuary seekers and supporters from Sanctuary Cookalongs
will be showcasing their dishes and expertise to members of
wider communities and PCoS network.
A delicious lunch will be provided and prepared by Sanctuary
Cookalongs group.
This event will provide an opportunity to meet and socialise over
food and is intended to create both cultural learning and a
promote a sense of warmth across the various communities who
participate.
Food is free for all Sanctuary Seekers. Donations are welcome
from others.

Tuesday 21st June 7-9pm Contextualising the Need to Heal

FILM SCREENING ‘LIMBO’ FREE EVENT

We are screening the award-winning film “Limbo” The film aims
to demonstrate the psychological implications of the refugee
journey juxtaposed with the need to heal and recover from what
is an extremely difficult experience exacerbated by the hostile
environment. It tells the story of lives in transit.

Synopsis:
Limbo is a 2020 British comedy-drama film, directed by Ben
Sharrock. The film centres on four asylum seekers who are
staying on a remote island in Scotland, and taking cultural
awareness classes, while awaiting the processing of their
refugee claims. Watch the official TRAILER – Limbo (2020).

The film will be followed by a short talk on the situation in
Europe and a discussion of the issues arising from the film.

RELAXATION AND YOGA TECHNIQUES ONLINE DEMONSTRATION

A gentle online yoga class held in celebration of Refugee Week,
providing sanctuary seekers and supporters with an opportunity to
relax and tune into their bodies

Thursday 23rd June Well-being Day

HEALING AND WELLBEING DAY  FREE EVENT
Location: Plungington Community Centre, Brook Street, Preston, PR1 7NB
Time: 12 Noon – 4PM

By invitation to local groups. No booking required.

This event is designed to showcase a range of therapeutic
interventions that each have the potential to heal and allow people
to imagine a different future. It will involve relaxation sessions, art
and creativity inputs, dance as relaxation and exercise. People
seeking sanctuary will be invited to share and demonstrate
traditional therapies linked to their cultural heritages.
Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
