It was a pleasure to be involved in Inspirational Women, an event at The Larder on Lancaster Rd in Preston.  The event was organised by Wyre and Preston North and Preston CLP to celebrate International Women’s Day.

The event was opened by Preston City of Sanctuary core group member Councillor Nweeda Khan with a passionate and inspiring speech.  Our chair read her own poem The Wise Women and there were speeches and orations of work by Maya Angelou and Cora Coralina.  Finally a troop of suffragettes brought us back to the evocative days of the early 20th century with addresses and songs.

We were among a number of stalls showcasing some of the support services available in the city.  Two of our Afghan friends brought some of their beautiful embroidery and we had lots of fun trying things on!
